BitMeter OS – Graphical Bandwidth Monitor.

 

 

BitMeter OS is a free, open-source, bandwidth monitor that works on Windows, Linux and Mac OSX.
BitMeter OS keeps track of how much you use your internet/network connection, and allows you to view this information either via a web browser, or by using the command line tools.

BitMeter OS – installation and configuration.

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

 

Dwonload BitMeter OS.

32bit version:

wget codebox.org.uk/downloads/bitmeteros/linux -O bitmeteros_0.7.5-i386.deb
dpkg -i bitmeteros_0.7.5-i386.deb

 

64bit version:

wget codebox.org.uk/downloads/bitmeteros/linux -O bitmeteros_0.7.5-amde64.deb
dpkg -i bitmeteros_0.7.5-amde64.deb

 

If above will fail, use this command to fix/install Bitmeter OS dependencies.

apt-get install -f

 

If you get any warnings similar to:

it means that the special tags (LSB) have not yet been added to the boot scripts

 

Edit scripts and add missing LSB tags:

nano /etc/init.d/bitmeter
#!/bin/sh

# Provides:          bmcapture
# Required-Start:    $local_fs $network
# Required-Stop:     $local_fs
# Default-Start:     2 3 4 5

Bitmeter OS – commands: start, stop, restart.

sudo /etc/init.d/bitmeterweb stop
sudo /etc/init.d/bitmeterweb start
sudo /etc/init.d/bitmeterweb restart

 

Access to Web Interface Bitmeter OS (only local machine):

http://localhost:2605

Commands:

Access from another computer (read-only).
Execute following command then restart Web Interface (sudo /etc/init.d/bitmeterweb restart):

sudo bmdb webremote

Access from another computer (read-write) (Web interface restart required):

sudo bmdb webremoteadmin

To disable remote access (local read-only) (Web interface restart required):

sudo bmdb weblocal

Command to change port, e.g: 8080 (Web interface restart required):

sudo bmdb setconfig web.port 8080

Start/Stop Web Interface of Bitmeter OS:

sudo bmdb webstop
sudo bmdb webstart

Stop/Start Data Capture process Bitmeter OS:

sudo bmdb capstop
sudo bmdb capstart

Increase interval writes updates to its database e.g: 60 second (Web interface restart required):

sudo bmdb setconfig cap.write_interval 60

Reset all data from the BitMeter OS database (Web interface restart required).

sudo bmdb purge
